The Early Childhood program (Pre-K 2 to Pre-K 4) at RIS provides a joyful, nurturing environment where children learn through exploration, play, and meaningful interaction. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach<\/span>, teachers encourage curiosity, creativity, and collaboration as children develop a sense of wonder about the world around them.<\/p>

All Pre-Kindergarten teachers are certified in Early Childhood Education and participate in ongoing professional learning to strengthen their practice. Each class is supported by dedicated Instructional Aides, and the team also includes an Atelierista<\/span>, a creative arts specialist who integrates imagination and visual expression into everyday learning.<\/p>

The Early Childhood curriculum at RIS is standards-informed, Reggio-inspired<\/span>, and built around an emergent approach<\/span> that honors each child\u2019s unique developmental journey.<\/p>\n

Grounded in the Washington D.C. Early Learning Standards<\/span>, the curriculum provides a strong foundation across developmental domains while allowing flexibility for teachers to design experiences that reflect children\u2019s interests, questions, and needs.<\/p>\n

In keeping with Reggio Emilia principles, children are viewed as capable and curious learners who construct knowledge through interaction and play. Teachers observe, document, and reflect on children\u2019s discoveries to plan responsive investigations that connect play with purpose.<\/p>\n
