On May 12, 2025, RIS Ruamrudee International School officially opened its new <\/span>Early Childhood Atelier<\/b>, a dedicated space inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and designed to celebrate the “hundred languages of children”\u2014the many ways young learners express, explore, and make meaning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Located in a serene corner of campus between Thomas Caf\u00e9 and the Elementary School building, the opening ceremony brought together students, families, and staff for a joyful and meaningful celebration. <\/span>Ms. Lei Bernadette Pre<\/b>, Early Childhood Head of Department and one of the visionaries behind the project, welcomed guests and reflected on the power of collaboration:<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\u201cWhat we created together was so much more than an event\u2014it was a celebration of children\u2019s voices, their creativity, and the power of collaboration,\u201d she shared. \u201cThe response from families has been incredible. The event began with a special performance of \u201cMahalo\u201d by Early Childhood students, accompanied by their music teacher, <\/span>Ms. Baylee Proctor<\/b>. This was followed by welcoming remarks from <\/span>Ms. Madeleine Bystrom<\/b>, Elementary School Principal, and a heartfelt blessing led by <\/span>Rev. Fr. John Yuthana Sriprapha, C.Ss.R.<\/b>, RIS School Chaplain and Pastor. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by <\/span>Dr. James (Jim) O\u2019Malley<\/b>, Head of School; <\/span>Khun Bond Piyapong Siriviriyanun<\/b>, School Manager; and <\/span>Ms. Madeleine<\/b>, joined by student representatives <\/span>Bubble<\/b>, <\/span>Ohm<\/b>, and <\/span>Kavin<\/b>. <\/span>Ms. Julie West<\/b>, Pre-K 4-1 teacher, served as emcee, guiding the morning with warmth and poise.<\/span><\/p>\n

Families then took turns exploring the Atelier and the accompanying <\/span>100 Languages Exhibition<\/b>, which showcased the many ways Pre-K 2\u20134 students engage with the world through different forms of expression. This included:.<\/span><\/p>\n

  • The Language of Clay<\/b> \u2013 Exploring texture, storytelling, and cultural connection through hands-on tactile experiences.<\/span>

  • The Language of Paper<\/b> \u2013 Folding, cutting, building, and designing, allowing children to make their thinking visible.<\/span>

    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • The Language of Collage<\/b> \u2013 Layering natural and found materials to reflect personal choices, emotions, and collaboration.<\/span>

    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • The Language of Construction<\/b> \u2013 Designing structures and environments with loose parts, blocks, and recycled objects, sparking curiosity and teamwork.<\/span>

    <\/span><\/li>\n
  • The Language of Sound and Music<\/b> \u2013 From wind chimes to jam sessions, children expressed identity and emotion through rhythm, movement, and melody.<\/span>

  • The Language of Paint<\/b> \u2013 A colorful and joyful way to explore emotion, imagination, and mark-making.<\/span>

    Throughout the exhibit, student voices and stories took center stage\u2014revealing not just the beauty of the final creations, but also the depth of the learning process behind them. These explorations nurtured skills across multiple domains, including fine and gross motor development, cognitive growth, social-emotional learning, and early literacy.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Behind the scenes, the Atelier was a labor of love. As Ms. Lei reflected:<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    \n\t\t\t\t\u201cThis journey took months of reflection, problem-solving, and hard work\u2014through setbacks, leaks, and long nights\u2014but what remained strong was our shared commitment to something beautiful and meaningful.     The grand opening not only marked the unveiling of a new learning space\u2014it celebrated the strength and spirit of the RIS Early Childhood community.
