RIS Students to Power Up Plant Defenses
iGEM is an annual synthetic biology competition event now celebrating its 20th year. At iGEM, university and high school teams from all over the world utilize biology to devise solutions to global problems in a local context.
This year, Team Thailand-RIS will be attending iGEM 2023, held in Paris from November 2 to 5. The team’s 2023 project is focused on improving stress responses in plants in hopes of assisting Thai agriculture, which is a large sector of the country’s economy.
In the past year, the team performed lab experiments at Chulalongkorn University and organized activities, such as a Chanthaburi community outreach trip and educational workshops for elementary & middle school, to gauge how the project affects the rest of society.
