Theatre

Early Childhood

Pre-K 2 to 4

Pre-Kindergarten students are introduced to the world of creative expression through imaginative play and role-playing activities. Children explore storytelling, character development, and emotional expression in a fun, supportive environment. Using the Reggio Emilia approach, lessons are shaped by the children’s interests, allowing them to engage in spontaneous, child-directed performances that build confidence, communication skills, and collaboration. These activities help develop social-emotional skills while nurturing a love for the arts.

Elementary School

Kindergarten to Grade 5

Theatre for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 provides an exciting introduction to the arts through imaginative play, storytelling, and creative movement. Starting in Kindergarten, students explore basic theatre concepts like character, setting, and creative movement, building a strong foundation for their artistic journey. As they progress, students in each grade engage in age-appropriate activities that focus on character development, expression, and collaboration, helping them develop essential skills like empathy, communication, and self-confidence.

By Grade 5, students refine their skills in storytelling, improvisation, and stagecraft, preparing for more advanced performances and creative projects. They explore different performance styles, including folk dances and classical theatre forms, fostering a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and artistic expression. Throughout the program, students have the opportunity to showcase their talents, collaborate with peers, and experience the joy of performing, setting them up for future success in theater and dance.

MIDDLE School

Grades 6-8

Students in grades 6 to 8 are invited to explore creativity, teamwork, and self-expression. Through MS Drama, students collaborate on scenes, using improvisation and literature to develop problem-solving and performance skills. The course can be repeated each year to build confidence and drama skills.

Creative Writing allows students to explore poetry, short stories, and playwriting while developing their writing skills. Students keep a journal to track their progress and can take the course multiple times to enhance their creativity and writing abilities.

HIGH School

Grades 9-8

High school theater students are offered the opportunity to explore creativity, develop confidence, and build essential life skills. Open to all, the courses focus on collaboration, self-expression, and the joy of storytelling. Theatre isn’t just about acting; it’s about growing as individuals and gaining skills like problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking.

Courses include Drama, which introduces students to basic acting skills and teamwork, and Advanced Drama, where students dive into theatre genres, character development, and performance techniques. Theatre Technology gives students a behind-the-scenes look at the technical aspects of theatre, while IB Theatre HL/SL offers a deeper exploration of theatre-making through projects like a Director’s Notebook and original ensemble creations.

Whether onstage or behind the scenes, the high school theater program provides a creative, supportive environment where students can thrive. With hands-on experiences and the chance to perform, they gain valuable skills for both artistic and academic success.
